Our room is getting an upgrade!

Updated: Feb 4, 2022

Welp. Haven't done a blog post since May... blame it on getting a new job, quarantine or just loss of motivation. Honestly it was a combination of all of those things. If you've been following on insta you know I've been working on projects - just trying to find the right combination of documenting it all. Anywho enough of the excuses let's just get right to it shall we?

As I'm writing this I'm currently wrapping up my entryway table build (you guys its gonna look good) and I'm planning out my next project. Always something ya'll. Never ending and honestly pretty overwhelming sometimes. But this next project is something I've been contemplating for like a year, so I'm SUPER excited! Are you ready for it?

I'm building a fireplace in Mike and I's bedroom! eek!

Our room is the furthest from our heater and because of how our system was built it gets pretty drafty back there - no matter what we have the thermostat set to. You can imagine Midwest winters can get pretty chilly and it can be unpleasant at times. Mike's solution in years past has been a portable space heater - which A. scare me and B. look hideous. So I brought the idea of an electric fireplace up last winter and he felt it couldn't be done - our room is tiny and we need a dresser for our clothes.

Our closet is a decent size - it's sort of a walk in closet but not really? How we currently have it setup there is a lot of wasted space - and totally room for me to build a built in dresser. WHICH MEANS I can get rid of our ridiculously large dresser that sits in our room and takes up an obscene amount of space.

The fireplace will then take the place of our dresser and we will finally mount the TV. I plan on building the frame of the fireplace using 2x4s and then using drywall and this roman clay from Portola Paints for the finishing touches.

Where I'm at currently: Well I've just ordered the fireplace insert and it should be here on October 19th. From there I will be able to plan out the 2x4 framing (which is dependent on the specific dimensions of the insert). We'll also have to add an electrical outlet for where we want the TV to be mounted. Mike wants the fireplace ASAP and I'm right there with him - this week in Indiana our weather is dropping and a nice cozy fireplace will be ideal for the coming months. I will move our dresser into the closet until I'm ready to reconfigure that in the next few weeks.

So, whatcha think? Are you as excited as I am to see this all play out?

Primary Bedroom Updates and Materials Needed:

- Portola Paints Roman Clay in Jacket

- Green Curtains

- Rug

- 2x4s

- Drywall

- Joint compound
